It may surprise you to learn that sleep can also have an impact on acne. We already know that a disturbed sleep or lack of sleep can cause mental distress resulting in lethargic behavior, lack of concentration, mood swings and aggression, but a lack of sleep can have other side effects too that are not so well known. One such side affect is the aggravation of acne which is a result of increased hormone levels brought on by the disturbed sleep. This increase in hormone levels increases the production of Sebum which clogs pores which then become infected, which in turn becomes acne. Hormone levels have long been associated with an onset of acne with many people suffering from acne in their teenage or pre-teen years when hormone levels are at their most unbalanced. Therefore, one of the best acne solutions for people who do not get at least 8 hours of undisturbed sleep is to go to bed earlier.

Get into a daily routine so that you go to bed shortly after using your acne products. Wash your face and treat it with your preferred acne products then unwind in bed with a book earlier than you would usually go to bed. This will prepare you for the night of sleep ahead and let your body relax and unwind ready for a good night’s sleep. Make sure you do not read for too long and ensure you get to sleep at least an hour before your usual sleeping time. You will notice a remarkable difference in your acne in a few days just from heading to bed early that extra hour. Having a night time routine makes it much easier to remember and will help mentally prepare you for bed.
